8 Cancelled Marvel Legacy Series That The Fans Will Miss

Perhaps a lesson that reboots, soft or hard, should get the boot.

Originating in June 2017, ‘Marvel Legacy’ was set to be the franchise’s new take on comics; offering soft reboots and super reimaginings for some characters whilst setting the stage for brand new heroes or previously sidelined acts to enjoy the spotlight.

It was a bold and ambitious move, releasing fifty-four series, six one-shots and six limited runs. And yet, as December rolled around, things turned out to be as bleak as the bland winters the UK often experiences. A whopping twelve series have begun, or already achieved, cancellation, presenting the question of where the beloved protagonists of these stories will go.

It’s unlikely they’ll be banished for good, so they’ll probably appear in the background of other stories and events, yet fans of these characters in particular must be devastated to hear that their favourite hero’s time in the sun has already come to an end. Some series could have been considered doomed from the start, yet others won over the hearts of fans and critics alike.

Whether it’s the Secret Warriors or Generation X, or either the U.S or Uncanny Avengers, it’s a shame to see these series go; especially if you’re an avid follower.

8. Royals

Somewhat of a crushing blow to the Inhumans, it seems that the botched job of their TV show isn’t the only disappointment 2017 had in store for the fans. Then again, it may be more of a personal blow to Marvel as a whole, as they’ve generally been trying to prop up the Inhumans as the new X-Men (as substitutes for Fox’s mutants) for a while and yet, here we are.

'The Royals' refer to the Inhumans' royal family, consisting of the mute king Black Bolt, his serious hair-game sporting wife Medusa, and the royal pup Lockjaw. They originate from the blue side of the moon, and given their latest development they might have wanted to stay there.

Ending in December with issue #12 after the ‘Fire From Heaven’ story arc, Al Ewing and Javier Rodríguez's Royals had to assimilate with the Inhumans series. There’s still plenty to celebrate though, right? Like that one-off coming up about Lockjaw, and who doesn’t love a super powered dog?

Anyway, the story ended on a high note though (you know, despite the odd death here and there), with the Royals securing the Primagen, an element that created the Terrigen mists. This is a good thing, and not an environmental disaster like it sounds like, as it helps birth new Inhumans, thus saving their race.

It does kill mutants though, so... maybe it’s not that great.
