8 Insane Times Comic Villains Took Up A Hero's Mantle

6. Eobard Thawne Gets A New Origin

Iron Doom
DC Comics

The Reverse Flash wasn’t always hell bent on destroying Barry Allen’s Flash. In fact, according to his origin in DC Rebirth, Eobard Thawne was a Flash fantastic from the 25th century, who was obsessed with the Scarlet Speedster at every turn.

The Flash amazed Thawne, and he spent his life becoming a historian on all things Flash. When he receives one of Barry’s old suits in a time capsule, he is able to use the residual traces of speed force energy to replicate the incident that gave Barry his powers. With speed force energy now running through his own body, Eobard dons the old costume and hits the streets as The Flash.

Determined to be the Flash of his timeline, Eobard began to engineer situations that put people at risk, only to be the one who saves them. Thinking he was helping the city, this 'new' Flash actually endangered the public with his antics and, after a brief travel through time, Barry Allen confronts Thawne in the future, defeating him in the process.

Forever scarred by his hero, Thawne never dons the red and yellow again, opting for the reverse color scheme, cementing his role as Flash’s number #1 nemesis.
