8 Insane Times Comic Villains Took Up A Hero's Mantle
5. Jason Todd Takes Over Nightwing
Not again, Jason!
In the story One Year Later, Dick Grayson (also known as Nightwing), leaves the streets of Bludhaven for New York City. Hoping for a fresh start, Dick is startled to hear that Nightwing has been spotted in NYC, and has been murdering criminals.
Confused by this malicious doppelganger, Grayson uses his detective skills to figure out that his imposter is Jason Todd, the villainous Red Hood.
Furious at what a mockery Jason has made of the Nightwing legacy, the two duke it out on the rooftops of New York. In the scuffle, Todd reveals that he thought Dick’s methods weren’t good enough, and that the citizens of New York preferred his version of Nightwing better.
He knocks him off a building, and when Grayson manages to hold on to a fire escape, Todd slices his hand, letting Grayson fall. The two meet again, with Jason defeating Grayson for a second time, before the two reluctantly join forces to defeat a common enemy. Todd sacrifices himself in the struggle, never to be seen in the Nightwing suit again.
