Gotham Season 5 Premiere: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From Year Zero
Gotham's final season begins in an epic fashion - marking the beginning of the end for the series.
Contains spoilers from Gotham Season 5, Episode 1.
With its curtain call in sight, Gotham returned to screens for its final season, and delivered a premiere episode that signified that the best is yet to come for the Fox series.
Aptly titled Year Zero, the episode takes place three months after the events of the fourth season finale, which saw Ra's Al Ghul and Jeremiah Valeska initiate their plan to cut Gotham off from the rest of the world. With the city now referred to as No Man's Land, a few lone survivors do what they can to ensure the safety of the civilians that were unable to escape from the wreckage.
Jim Gordon carries the burden, communicating with the government who have well and truly turned their backs on the people left in Gotham City. Bruce and Alfred keep vigil at Selina's hospital bedside, and Tabitha vows revenge on Oswald for the murder of Butch.
While Gotham found its footing in its third season, the series has significantly improved ever since. Year Zero demonstrates that the show still has a lot more to give and, save for a few caveats, is one of Gotham's finest hours yet.
