10 Awesome Fan Theories That Improve Already Great Films
10. Andy's Mom Is Jessie's Original Owner - Toy Story 2
The Theory: Pixar's most depressing moment until Up condensed married life into four tearjerking minutes, Toy Story 2's When She Loved Me details Jessie's journey from favourite toy to discarded childhood relic as her owner, Emily, grew up. This relatively new theory suggests that Emily is none other than Andy's Mom. Ignoring debatable elements like the age being about right and the similar look of the two characters, there's still some really strong evidence in the film; the hat Andy wears for Cowboy camp looks suspiciously like Emily's, with the white band darkened by age. How It Improves The Film: It doesn't make Jessie's backstory any more tearjerking (that's not really possible), but it gives her some unknown closure and makes Andy's Mom an immediately more intriguing character. When speculation about Pixar come up it tends to be in reference to the all-consuming Pixar Theory which links all the studio's films in one massive narrative. Centred mainly on Boo's attempts to get back to the monster world it's an impressively deep story, although perhaps too expansive to have any truth to it. What gives the Andy's Mom theory real credence is that all the evidence for it comes from one just film, so its conceivable the story-masters over at Pixar could easily slip this painfully minor subplot into the background.
