10 Awesome Trailers The Movie Just Couldn't Live Up To

7. The Amazing Spider-Man

When it was first announced Sony were choosing to reboot Spider-Man, rather than continue with the Tobey Maguire continuity, the original idea had been to go a bit more low-key. The appointment of Marc Webb, who previously had made (500) Days Of Summer, as director suggested a more Peter Parker oriented outing, while the initially announced budget (reportedly $80 million) was a fraction of the amount Sony had shelled out on Spider-Man 3. With things seeming smaller, spider-fans were excited to see what the visual style of the film would be. The first trailer gave a proper taste of it. As well as setting up The Amazing Spider-Man's USP (the mystery behind the disappearance of Peter Parker's parents), it showed a sequence of Spidey wall-climbing, jumping and web-slinging all in one continuous POV shot. Fan reaction was initially mixed, but generally interested was piqued; it certainly felt unique. For whatever reason both elements of this trailer were noticeably toned down in the finished film, with the parent-oriented story held back for sequels and the new-look action reserved for a couple of moments in the final sequence, which meant we were left with something rather indistinct from the original beyond moodier lighting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upwf8RsyNqQ
