10 Best Artificial Intelligence Movies Of The Last Decade

1. Her (2013)

“I actually used to be so worried about not having a body, but now I truly love it.”

And here it is, the greatest Artificial Intelligence movie of the last ten years.

In a future that could very well be right around the corner, Her follows the increasingly intimate relationship between lonely writer Theodore and state-of-the-art operating system, Samantha; the world’s first conscious AI. Whereas a lot of past films have indeed explored the realm of self-aware machinery, few manage to reach the heights of believability and thoroughness that Her achieves.

A beautifully constructed script paves the way for our unlikely lovers, with the central themes of love, connection and loneliness being skilfully echoed throughout the narrative. It’s no wonder Spike Jonze was able to pick up an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, as he’s truly at the top of his game; delivering a movie of both cinematographic and narrative perfection.

Her manages to highlight the limitations of our existence, questioning whether our reality is any more tangible than that of a self-aware machine. Is consciousness really any different than the perception of consciousness? Organic or not, aren’t we all just really advanced machinery?

If you’re looking for a movie that explores the potential reality of advanced Artificial Intelligence - and have yet to watch Her - we kindly suggest you stop what you’re doing and go watch it. Right now.

Are there any Artificial Intelligence movies from the last decade you believe should have made it onto our list? Let us know in the comments below.
