10 Biggest Movie Douchebags From The 80s

Back to the Future

Pretty much any movie you can think of needs conflict to function, and that generally arrives by way of an antagonist who stands in the hero's way. Often we might sympathise with their motives, but the more typical manner is to build the villain up as a total asshat, or even a douchebag. A douchebag is often a descriptor used for characters who aren't flat-out evil - i.e. they've (mostly) never murdered anyone - but they'll simply go out of their way to inconvenience the hero as best possible. With the proliferation of high school movies in the 1980s, the decade has an especially high douchebag quotient, with cocky jocks dominating a large percentage of this list, while the rest is filled out by yuppies and authoritarian figures who flout chops they don't really have. Without any further ado, here are the 10 biggest movie douchebags from the 1980s...

10. Johnny Lawrence - The Karate Kid

Some might argue that Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) is merely manipulated and pressured into being a douchebag by his far douchier mentor, John Kreese (Martin Kove), the sensei who promotes a merciless approach and famously instructs Johnny to "sweep the leg" during his fight with Daniel. Still, that's the very same mentality that helped the Nazis to flourish, and we're going to say that those guys were douchebags, so in a far lesser degree, so is Johnny. Following the teachings of the Cobra Kai dojo, Lawrence is fierce but free of honour, only appearing to snap out of his arrogant ways when he is finally bested by an injured Daniel at the end of the film. Still, the guy's fringe - which hangs perilously over his headband - only cements his douchiness.
