Sequels have long been part and parcel of the Hollywood business model; it's now got to the stage where follow-ups are given release dates before the first movie has even finished production. In general, the studios like to strike when the iron is hot and release sequels every two or three years to capitalize on brand awareness, while the horror genre tends to make their well-known franchises an annual event. However, there are more than a few cases of sequels arriving a long time after their predecessors. For instance, there was 11 years between Toy Story 2 and 3, blockbuster action franchises Die Hard and Terminator were on hiatus for 12 years apiece during the 1990's and 2000's, Sylvester Stallone directed new features for both Rocky and Rambo after 16 and 19 years respectively, while cult classic Tron finally got a sequel after nearly three decades. With long-delayed sequels to the likes of Independence Day, Blade Runner and Finding Nemo all in various stages of development, this article will take a look at ten follow-ups that arrived a long time after their predecessors, and definitely were not worth the wait. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but these ten movies served to disappoint audiences and crush expectations instead.
