10 Early Predictions For 2018's Best Picture Oscar Nominees

Why It Will Be Nominated: This is a film with so much going for it, least of all a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score, more than $250 million at the box office against a $4.5 million budget, and writer-director Jordan Peele's fantastically razor-sharp engagement with timely themes.

The film has been a major talking point all year, and unless it's one-upped by another "race movie" later in awards season, for want of a better phrase, it feels like it could steal the tenth spot away from a more conventional effort.

Why It Might Not: The Academy is notoriously prejudiced against the horror genre, and some of the crustier, older members of AMPAS may feel like they already did black people everywhere a "solid" by voting for Moonlight last year, so might opt for something less racial-driven this time.

Also, releasing in February is never a good look for an Oscar contender, and it could easily lose momentum over the next few months, especially considering there's still around 5 months until nominations are voted on.
