10 Famous Movie Characters Who Were Almost Given Awful Names

10. Hermione Granger Was Originally Called "Hermione Puckle" - Harry Potter

Hermione-Granger-Wallpaper-hermione-granger-24489751-1024-768 One of the things I've always admired about J.K. Rowling's writing is in just how well she names her characters - they're imbued with an obvious sense of the "fantastical," of course, but there's something that separates them from all those characters in pretty much every other fantasy series whose "weird names" sound forced. Rowling strikes the right balance, which is why names like Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger work so well. It may shock you to learn, then, that Hermione - played by Emma Watson in the movie adaptations - wasn't always assigned the surname Granger. As of now, Granger feels perfectly suited to the character - it tells us that she's from the Muggle world, whilst simultaneously giving the character a swatty and uptight edge. Originally, though, Rowling had her down as "Hermione Puckle," which we're almost certain is the worst name of all time.
