10 Famous Movie Characters Who Were Almost Given Awful Names

9. Buzz Lightyear Was Nearly Branded "Lunar Larry" - Toy Story

buzz_lightyearWoody and Lunar. It just doesn't sound right at all, does it? And yet those were very nearly the names of our collective Toy Story protagonists, before somebody had the good sense to come up with the brilliantly inspired name "Buzz Lightyear." Buzz was named after actual Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, of course, but Lightyear is a unique surname that really gives this character the epic weight that he deserves - kids wouldn't buy "Lunar Larry," would they? Lunar Larry sounds, in fact, like a toy that kids from, like, the '50s would be hollering for their parents to buy them at Christmas or something, and it doesn't really fit in with the idea that Buzz Lightyear is supposed to be the "hottest toy of the '90s" in the original Toy Story movie. Let's just be glad that it was changed, and that Woody wasn't kept as mean-spirited, and occasionally terrifying character that he was originally written as, too.
