10 Fan Theories About Tarantino Movies That Make Perfect Sense

1. Pulp Fiction Is A Prequel To Reservoir Dogs

Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs share a number of confirmed connections – namely the Brothers Vega, Vincent and Vic, and a blink-and-you’ll miss it reference to Jack Rabbit Slims in Reservoir Dogs – but this fan theory suggests that Pulp Fiction is actually a prequel to Tarantino’s debut feature set an indeterminate number of years earlier.

There’s an obvious hurdle with this theory in that both movies share four actors – Steve Buscemi, Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel and Tarantino himself – who play seemingly very different characters in each movie. But what if the characters they play in Pulp Fiction morph into the ones they portray in Reservoir Dogs?

Buscemi’s Buddy Holly-styled waiter in Pulp Fiction gets sick of waiting tables for pittance and turns to a more lucrative life of crime (hence his bitterness on tips), while conversely Tim Roth’s Pumpkin is inspired by Jules to turn over a new leaf and becomes a cop. Yes, Roth might sport a British accent in Pulp Fiction and an American one in Reservoir Dogs but time in America can do that to a person.

Keitel and Tarantino’s characters are where things get difficult. It’s already widely believed that Mr White (real name: Larry Dimmick) is related to Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction character Jimmie Dimmick but this begs the question that if Mr White/Larry Dimmick is Winston Wolf and Jimmie is Mr Brown then why wouldn’t they recognise each other in either film?

Well, this is the world of Tarantino where duplicity and misdirection reign so perhaps the pair were putting on an act of not knowing each so their criminal associates (or us, for that matter) don’t know they’re related. Makes perfect sense … kind of.
