With "Prometheus" finally hitting US shores this Friday, the summer movie season is officially off and running. After the premature summer blockbuster that was "The Avengers" set astronomically high expectations for this summer, there are still plenty of films being released within the next 2 months to satisfy fans and critics alike. Herein lies my list of 10 films to get excited about for the rest of the summer and that everyone should check out.
10. Rock of Ages
Release Dates: June 13th (UK), June 15th (US)
The film adaptation of the Tony Award winning musical about a couple who fall in love to a who's who soundtrack of 1980's classic rock, promises something for everyone. This movie will satisfy Broadway aficionados, rom-com fans, glam rockers, and everyone in between. The film also boasts a cast of A-listers, including Tom Cruise rocking out as 80's era hairband frontman Stacee Jaxx and with supporting turns from Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, and Catharine Zeta-Jones.
9. Ted
Release Dates: June 29th (US) and August 1st (UK)
Ted revolves around a popular childhood dream of lonely and friendless kids around the world: for their beloved teddy bear (or whatever stuffed animal was their favorite bed friend) to come alive. However, this wish is a double-edged sword, as the teddy bear comes equipped with the potty mouth of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. Starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, I would initially have wrote this film off the minute I deigned to read about it, but the fact that MacFarlane is attached the project makes me cautiously optimistic. The trailer makes this look crazily funny.
