10 Great Movies That Show How Stupid Politics Really Is

Think politics can be a bit of a joke? So do the people who made these movies.

Ever since the days of the ancient Greeks, politics has long been a rich source for satire. It's easy to see why: politicians have a well deserved reputation for exhibiting all the kinds of loathsome characteristics which make them ripe for mockery and unflattering imitation. It's why comedy television such as Spitting Image and Brass Eye proved to be so popular. Political satire has had a rich and vibrant history of outings on the big screen, some more successful in hitting their targets than others. While a movie like the Seth Rogen/James Franco vehicle The Interview missed practically every opportunity available to deliver a witty satire of global politics and propaganda, others are far more scathing and amusing. As the people of Britain come to make their choices at the ballot box this week and help decide whether we get five more years of the Tories or something less dreadful, and Hilary Clinton gears up her campaign as opponent of the one percent (as she takes political donations from the one percent), it's as good a time as any to take a look at some of the funniest - and often most honest - films about politics. You'll be hard pushed to find ten movies which tear politics to shreds quite as effectively as these.
