It's something of a stereotype for British television series to take their characters across the Atlantic when branching out into a feature length film, but fortunately In The Loop - the big screen outing for the characters of the BBC comedy The Thick Of It - benefits from a keen understanding of the farcical nature of the "special relationship". The lies, misinformation and deceptions of the British and American political classes which led us to war against Iraq in 2003 might not sound like the funniest subject matter, but in the hands of Armando Iannucci it's pure comedy gold. It certainly helps that Iannucci is one of the foremost mainstream satirists working in Britain.
