10 Incredible CGI Scenes You Won't Believe Aren't Real

3. Tobey Maguire's Hair - Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas

When Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro pick up Tobey Maguire and we see the ridiculous haircut that he's sporting for the first time, 99.9% of people would simply assume that it was a hair-piece, because why not? It's the standard way to film a scene like that, but Terry Gilliam, ever shying away from convention, had a slightly different idea, to use CGI, given that the tendency for even a well-screwed-on hairpiece to flail out the back end of an open-top car was pretty high. So yes, the end result is computer-generated, and given the difficulty of rendering objects with lots of strands like hair (as so many video games told us about in the early 2000s), it's impressively seamless, and not once does this draw attention itself.
