4. Landscapes & Sheep...Lots Of Sheep - Brokeback Mountain
When I discovered a five-minute video breakdown of all the visual effects in Brokeback Mountain, I couldn't quite believe it, given that the film by its nature appeared to have practically zero necessity for visual effects, and yet, there it is. The above video demonstrates how much of the rural landscape was digitally altered to accommodate the look Ang Lee wanted, from shifting entire regions in the background to adding in weather elements, the moon and so on. Perhaps the most amusing addition, though, was sheep...lots and lots of sheep, namely when Ennis is herding them early on. The raw image shows Heath Ledger and just a few sheep, but this was digitally duplicated to absolute perfection for the final product.
