10 Marvel Cinematic Universe Surprises The Trailers Ruined
9. Thor: Ragnarok - Mjolnir Is Destroyed
Thor: Ragnarok's trailers are works of art, drenched in neon visuals and synth-heavy tunage. They make you really want to see the movie, but spoil its story in the process.
Character arcs are mapped out almost entirely, the biggest battles are teased and key plot points the audience should have discovered for themselves on the day are outed.
Case in point, Thor losing his magical hammer Mjolnir is a game-changer for the character which ups the stakes. There's certainly an argument for keeping this twist locked up in Odin vault, but did they have to reveal exactly how it happens as well?
The trailer includes a scene where Cate Blanchett's Hela smashes the weapon into tiny pieces, and another in which Thor tells Hulk "I lost my hammer". Only the latter was needed to generate intrigue, of the spoiler-free variety, no less.
The phrase 'show, don't tell' doesn't have apply to movie trailers, Marvel.
