10 Most Badass Movie Death Scenes Of All Time

9. The Exploding Shark - Jaws

The Departed Matt Damon Death
Universal Pictures

Well, we've already seen the shark get the upper hand on man, so let's turn the tables, shall we?

The quintessential summer blockbuster, Jaws still holds up as an exciting, terrifying disaster movie. It's a testament to the film's overall excellence that, even after witnessing the antagonist shark meet its maker in one of the most spectacularly gruesome sequences of the decade, so many viewers were still afraid to swim in open waters for years after watching this movie.

It makes sense. This damn shark didn't just terrorise the fictional town of Amity Island, it terrorised the audience, too. Never before had animatronic creatures been so frightening.

Add to that the trauma of watching everyone's favourite grizzled sea captain, Quint, get horrifically devoured by the monstrous shark, and there's no one who doesn't feel overjoyed watching that beast get what's coming to it.

Brody's ingenious last-ditch effort - stuffing a scuba tank into the shark's mouth before blasting the tank with a rifle and, thus, exploding the shark in glorious fashion like a can of hairspray left over an open flame.
