10 Most Depraved FIlms You've Never Seen

8. The Gestapo's Last Orgy (1977)

Gestapos Orgy Those naughty Italian directors: they are responsible for so much mayhem in this list. In this case it is Cesare Canevari taking the helm for this disgusting, immoral, dirtbag film - The Gestapo's Last Orgy. This film is part of a cycle of films (mainly Italian) called Nazisploitation which were sparked off by the commercial success of Liliana Cavani's The Night Porter in which Charlotte Rampling and Dirk Bogarde reignited their sadomasochistic relationship that they started in the death camps a number of years after the war. Don Edmund's Ilsa She Wolf of the SS, which portrayed a power hungry, sexually insatiable, sadistic Female SS camp commandant was also hugely influential. Italian low budget directors went into plagiaristic overdrive and such abominable titles as SS Girls, SS Experiment Camp, Red Nights of the Gestapo, The Beast in Heat, Deported Women of the SS Special Section began to foul up the screen. Any one of those films could be on this list but I have picked The Gestapo's Last Orgy due to its sheer depravity which has been unmatched in any other Nazisploitation movie. Now, where do I begin? The heroine Lise, experimented on, attracts the interest of the Head of the Camp because no matter what they throw at her, she shows no fear. They threaten to dip her in quick lime - no reaction, and they plunge her head into a bowl of rats (which are very obviously gerbils) and there is nary a quiver of her bottom lip. She says she shows no fear because she wants to die as she betrayed her family to the Nazis. When the doctor tells her she is innocent of this crime, Lise becomes consumed by the desire to live and has sex with the doctor there and then. In a scene of astonishing depravity some SS officers sit down to a meal and discuss a time when Jews will be farmed as meat for Aryans. A Jewish woman is then doused in alcohol, set alight and eaten by the Nazis as well as the imbibing of some 'Jewish Baby Stew'. The offensiveness of these scenes is astonishing: they are an affront to basic human decency and they are enough to make you violently sick - not just at the action on the screen, but also at the ideology behind it. Totally reprehensible. We are led to believe that Lise falls in love with the Camp Boss and carries out his every perverted whim - including wearing a pubic wig made from the scalps of deceased inmates. A whole load of other unwholesome guff occurs until we fast forward to the present day where Lise and the Camp Boss have orchestrated a meeting at the ruins of the camp. She shoots him, thankfully, and this piece of trash is over. About the only funny thing in the film is an embarrassingly long sex scene with the atrocious film's main theme song played over it. I speak German and what I could decipher from the song were the immortal lines 'Lise! Lise! Dry Your Eyes and don't cry!' Ironically, watching this sort of material is enough to bring even the hardiest of film watchers to tears of exasperation.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
