An actor as well as a director, Jon Favreau is probably best well known now for his ever presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in and directing the very first film in the saga, Iron Man.

Favreau's big break as a director came in 2003 with the release of Elf, probably the most pure and fun Christmas movie to come out in recent times. He soon followed that up with the children's sc-fi adventure Zathura, a sort of quasi sequel to Jumanji. Then came 2008's Iron Man, the film that proved that he could balance high budget all out action with family friendly sensibilities.

Of course his track record is far from perfect. Iron Man 2 and Cowboys and Aliens followed soon after, both to mixed reception to say the least. And after these two disappointing movies Favreau made the perfect decision - to go back to basicsfor Chef, which had almost twenty times less budget than Iron Man 2 but infinitely more heart and genuine humour. The film was so successful that it spawned a spinoff documentary that now airs on Netflix.

His next two films would be his most technologically challenging and big budgeted of his career so far. The Jungle Book and The Lion King. Regardless of the critical reception of the films, they grossed over $2.5 billion dollars combined. Favreau is now in a position where he as proved categorically that he can handle both the biggest of scales and the smallest of scales.
