10 Most Terrifying Horror Movie Villains You've Never Heard Of

Every scream queen was once a cheerleader: every horror icon started out as a nobody…

Dracula, the Wolfman and Frankenstein€™s Monster. Leatherface, the xenomorph and scary little Damien. Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers. Chucky. Pinhead. Hannibal Lecter. Jigsaw. The list goes on and on and on. The monsters and the villains in horror movies that became so celebrated, you€™d be forgiven for thinking that they were the heroes. As Hollywood fell in love with the idea of the franchise and the sequels dragged on, each less effective, less scary than the last, that€™s exactly what happened. The Friday 13th and Halloween movies became drinking games in celluloid form, horror played for laughs, giving the dwindling audience reasons to cheer each increasingly elaborate kill scene. As the icons became less stark, less interesting, turned camp and bloodless to suit a mainstream cinema audience, the horror crowd found themselves wandering through uncharted territory and along unfamiliar roads in an effort to find fresh blood: new monsters that hadn€™t yet been transformed into tame versions of themselves. This is a little echo of what they found along the way: ten of the most terrifying horror movie villains you€™ve probably never heard of. Naturally, here be spoilers.
