Every once in a while, news comes out of a movie in development that sounds as if there's no way it could possibly fail. Then word comes out that for one reason or another (the director moved on to another project, negotiations between the filmmakers and the studio broke down, not enough funding was available...) the movie won't get made and everyone is left to wonder what could have been. This list shows some of the best rumoured projects that still have a chance to be made that for whatever reason haven't yet. Each one of these movies has loads of potential and some movie studio needs to find a way to get these projects off the ground.
10. David Fincher's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Despite their already being a very well known adaption of it, David Fincher has long been trying to get his own version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea going but problems and other projects keep getting in the way. The Jules Verne novel follows a scientist and two of his friends who become prisoners aboard the submarine the Nautilus where Captain Nemo shows them some of the wonders of the world. Fincher wants Brad Pitt to have a key role in the movie which is currently being re-written by their Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker. Fincher described his hypothetical approach to the movie as almost making a cyberpunk adaptation that would be his "Empire Strikes Back." If the thought of one of the best modern directors taking on potentially one of the best sci-fi adaptions ever doesn't excite you, you might just not like movies. Disney currently have the movie on hold as Fincher decides what his next movie will be.
