Missing these twists won't impede your enjoyment of the movie by any means, but once you know, you just might have a newfound respect for how delicately these works of cinema were crafted...

10. Nite Owl Prevented The Creation Of Batman - Watchmen

Jurassic Park
Warner Bros.

One of the most memorable sequences in Zack Snyder's Watchmen is surely its glorious opening titles - a montage of superhero activity from the 1930s through to the 1970s, set to Bob Dylan's iconic "The Times They Are a-Changin.'"

One gorgeous slow-motion shot shows the original Nite Owl (Stephen McHattie) punching an armed mugger, in turn saving two wealthy, well-dressed individuals.

If you look closer, you'll see that the noticeboard in the background identifies the location as Gotham Opera House, and so, any comic book fan worth their salt will surely conclude that they're looking at Bruce Wayne's parents being saved from death by Nite Owl.

As such, this basically explains why Batman is nowhere to be seen in this version of reality - with his parents spared from death, what motivation would Bruce ever have to become a superhero?

Granted, there are also Batman posters on the right-hand side of the frame, but this can be easily dismissed as Zack Snyder trying to hammer the point home visually for the cheap seats. Yes, this shot is all about Batman, or rather his absence in this universe.
