10 Movie Powers That Would't Be As Cool As You Think

8. Being Stuck In A Time Loop - Groundhog Day

Ground Gal 0010

Power: You're repeating the same day over and over with your memory intact while everyone else remains ignorant. Why it would suck: Bill Murray certainly explores every aspect of this time loop thing in Groundhog Day. After initially being freaked out of his mind at the notion, he quickly sees the benefits as knowing exactly what's going to happen while the rest of the town remains clueless produces some interesting results. He can now predict when the bank will be the most vulnerable, allowing him to steal whatever he needs. Even if he gets caught, there's no consequences because the next morning restarts the whole day all over again. He can carouse with local women using information that he has assembled that he wouldn't be able to retain normally because they would remember giving it to him under normal circumstances. He can even kill himself over and over again. You can do whatever you want when you know you've got a do-over the next day. It's like playing Call of Duty. Yet, he never really figured out why it was happening or what the rationale was for making it stop. Meaning it could have stopped at any time. Meaning he could have really killed himself. He could have ended up in jail for a very long time. He could have ended up engaged to a stranger. He could have given himself a heart attack through blatant overeating. It seems to me like he was taking quite a risk attempting all those things when he had no idea when the loop would stop. So, do me a favor? If you ever find yourself in a time loop, just sit still until it's over. No use calling your mother to inform her of all your drug use if you don't have to. Also, the boredom would be unimaginable. It's hard enough going to the doctor's office and reading the same magazines over and over and over again. This is a situation that provides no new television shows, no new books, and no new movies. Can you imagine if you got stuck in a time loop when Batman & Robin came out? You know what? Don't try.
