8. The Great Wall
Where You've Seen It: King Kong (1933) & Gone With The Wind The famous scene from the iconic 1939 film that depicts the burning of Atlanta was actually filmed long before the rest of the movie, even before Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh had been cast. The lot needed to be cleared out to make room for the Gone With The Wind sets to be built, so in order to kill two birds with one stone the studio torched many of their existing sets and used the footage in the film. The most notable among the fire is the great wall set from the original 1933 version of King Kong. Despite being an impressive piece of memorabilia and set-building, the large wooden gates that kept the enormous beats chained were simply too large to keep around, so they were doused and torched for the fire at the Atlanta Depot.
