A ton of rather well-known actors out there are understandably quite selective when it comes to what work they put out into the world.

Life is short, folks. So, if a project involves a star's character getting involved in a storyline they don't agree with, feel would be a good use of their time, or they even find offensive, it's not uncommon to hear of said performer simply refusing to have any part of it.

In some cases, the actors here were actually able to land on an alternative solution that ultimately worked out better for all involved.

But there were definitely some occasions over the years when thespians took one look at the story or idea being pitched for their character and decided to fully walk away from the upcoming film.

Whether they just thought the original plan would have sent out the wrong message to viewers, felt they were being disrespected by the direction their character was heading down, or didn't quite understand why they were being offered the bizarre idea in the first place, this bunch of actors all gave these particular storylines a hard pass.

10. Rachel Weisz Didn't Want Her Character To Have A 21-Year-Old Son - Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor

After starring alongside the wonderful Brendan Fraser in both The Mummy and its sequel The Mummy Returns, Rachel Weisz eventually decided not to return as Evelyn Carnahan for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The star herself would eventually explain to Digital Spy that she didn't even end up reading a script for that threequel, claiming that the fact she'd have to head out to China for five months after finishing her last film, The Brothers Bloom, was what led to her not appearing in the film.

However, according to Tomb of the Dragon Emperor's director Rob Cohen, that wasn't the real reason Weisz opted not to make an Evelyn comeback.

Cohen told Heat (via Digital Spy) that he was informed by the actor's - quite angry - representative that Weisz wasn't impressed by the script at all, with the then-37-year-old Weisz outright refusing to play a character with a 21-year-old son.

So, while Weisz claims she didn't like the idea of being away from home for so long after just wrapping another film, Cohen remembered the events differently and responded to the star's apparent refusal to accept her character's part as the mother of an older son in the storyline by recasting Maria Bello in the role for the 2008 picture.
