10 Movie Villains Who Were Clearly Just Misunderstood

6. The Red Queen €“ Resident Evil

Red Queen I understand that a homicidal robot attempting to kill you can easily be viewed as a villainous, but try and look at it from the Red Queen€™s perspective. As far as she€™s concerned, she had to stop absolutely anything from getting out of the Hive and potentially dooming the world. As she constantly yells throughout the film, her logic is indeed undeniable €“ if it takes one murdered Mila Jovovich to save the entire world, it seems like an easy trade to make. Yet whether through the need to establish more action shots or confused direction (knowing the €˜pedigree€™ behind these films, probably the latter), the Red Queen€™s unrelenting nature is frequently portrayed as needlessly homicidal. Yes, she murdered everyone in the building when the virus got out and insists the party who break their way in euthanize their infected member before she lets them out, but really, these are all completely necessary and understandable actions bearing in mind the alternative. This isn€™t even a Nuremberg defence €“ if they had just listened to the little girl, there wouldn€™t have been an apocalypse and there wouldn€™t have been an excuse to keep this moribund franchise going. But as it was, they ignored her and everything went to hell pretty quickly.
