10 Movie Villains Who Were Clearly Just Misunderstood

5. Count Dooku €“ Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones

Count Dooku Everything Dooku does, he does it because he passionately feels the Republic is just terrible. The man€™s not even objectively evil €“ he joined the Sith because of a traumatic back-story made him lose faith with the Jedi, who up until the hell-for-leather finale of Clones seemed to just sit around and pontificate. What Dooku wanted to do is actually have an effect, and he felt the only say he could do this was by joining the Sith. If anything, Dooku€™s something of a tragic hero €“ he€™s clearly a principled man, and he absolutely hates how corrupt and bureaucratic the Republic was and desired to change it. Yes, he starts a war but does so with legitimate grievances and hopes to establish what he thinks is right and will be of benefit to everyone if he succeeds. The only fault he really had was getting in bed with the devil to do it €“ he knows who Chancellor Palpatine is, but honestly thought the Sith lord was in his corner with attempting to tear apart a bureaucratic republic for a far more autonomous confederacy. That he even chose to work with Sidious at all was a laudable feat €“ after all, the man did train the guy who killed his treasured apprentice (Qui-Gon) and as Chancellor was the head of the inefficiencies Dooku despises. The fact he was being used as a pawn to corrupt Anakin Skywalker was just an unfortunate tragedy he couldn€™t possibly have seen and a pretty brutal betrayal, all things considered. All in all, you have to feel sorry for the man €“ he tried to change the world for the better but ended up with a ruined name, a ruined reputation, a failed campaign and a decapitation to boot.
