10 Movie Villains Who Will Kick Ass In 2019

2018 has been a fantastic year for bad guys. Thanos, Killmonger, August Walker and Michael Myers - to name a few - all proved worthy opponents, stealing every scene they appeared in and becoming one of the best parts of their respective movies.

And jumping ahead, 2019 looks like it will be no different. With gigantic movies like Avengers 4 and Captain Marvel set to open, smaller horror flicks like The Curse Of La Llorona and Annabelle 3 looking to make a splash, and sequels like It: Chapter 2 following on from strong preceding movies, there are a vast collection of antagonists who are just waiting to continue 2018's hot streak of villainy.

Because the bad guys don't have to play by the same strict rulebook as the heroes, they are often more interesting to watch, and the next year-and-a-bit is poised to prove this by delivering a truly memorable set of foes that you'll be thinking about long after the credits have stopped rolling.

Iron Man, Godzilla, The Losers' Club and Captain Marvel better watch out: they've got a lot on their plate in 2019...

10. Grimmel The Grisly (How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World)

When comparing animated movies, the How To Train Your Dragon series has always been darker and more mature than most. Even simple decisions like aging the main character between sequels show that the filmmakers care about moving their story forward, rather than just spewing out a simple, dumb family animation.

True, the villain in the first movie was unimaginative and passable, but in How To Train Your Dragon 2, real effort was put into making sure the antagonist challenged Hiccup and Toothless in difficult ways. The villain was responsible for the murder of Hiccup's dad, for instance, a hugely impactful death and something you rarely see in family movies of this ilk.

Luckily, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World looks like it's attempting to continue that trend, casting F. Murray Abraham and his deep, intense voice to play Grimmel The Grisly. Trailers have shown the sinister villain taking down dragons with apparent ease, making this guy the most dangerous threat the dragon riders have ever faced. "Grisly". It's all in the name.

His powerful stare and sharp eyes make him look like a driven force of nature, and this being the final instalment of the trilogy, the stakes are going to be much higher than ever before - so expect Grimmel to thrust Hiccup and Toothless through the wringer at a devastating pace.
