The film climaxes at the end of the War in Europe, and Nazi businessman Oskar Schindler is just about to run out of money. He has to flee the arriving Red Army, but is given a ring from his Jewish workers, which contains an engraved quotation saying, "Whoever says one life saves the world entire". Schindler accepts the sentiment, but it's what he says next that kills us, that he could have done more to try and save lives. It gets even more crushing once the story is over, and Spielberg closes things by having a procession of Schindler's surviving Jews come out - accompanied by their actor counterparts - and place a stone on his grave, which is in Jerusalem. It's a theatrical touch that will have everyone, man or woman, squirming in their seats, struggling to contain themselves.
