10 Movies That Are Still Stuck In Development Hell

Making a film is a monumental task. So many people have to come together and agree on so many different things, it's not surprising that plenty of projects end up delayed for long periods of time. Some of them have been stuck in 'development hell' for so long they may never get made at all.

For these films, nothing seems to go right. Rumours and reports have consistently suggested that they might finally enter production, with some even being officially announced, unveiling release dates and cast lists, but something always ends up going wrong, plunging the projects back into the pits of development hell all over again.

Only time will tell if these movies ever make it into cinemas, but things aren't looking too good for them right now. Some films do eventually grapple their way out of development hell, but many still remain, passing from studio to studio and script to script, never lucky enough to see the light of day. Even if these projects do eventually get made, they'd have to be pretty amazing to justify such a long wait.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure came out in 1989, swiftly followed by Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey in 1991. It's been nearly three decades since Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter beguiled us as a couple of time-travelling moronic musicians, and rumours of a third film have been doing the rounds for pretty much all of that time.

Reeves went on to become a huge movie star, appearing in smash hits like Speed and The Matrix, and seemed to have put Bill & Ted behind him. However, back in 2010, the rumours really started to take off, with reports stating that a script was being written and Reeves and Winter were on board.

Reeves even confirmed the stories and earlier this year, Bill & Ted Face the Music was revealed as the new name for the project. Various people have since been attached to the movie and it seemed to be a done deal, but Reeves has recently revealed that Bill & Ted 3 isn't such a sure thing after all, citing issues with financing and rights as potential hurdles for the project to overcome if it ever hopes to be released.
