10 Movies That Could Be Major Surprise Hits Of 2019

The unlikely pairing of 90s blockbuster uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Armageddon, Peal Harbour, Pirates of the Caribbean) with art house darling and two time Academy Award winning director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, Life of Pi) could go either way.

Lee famously confounded audiences with his take on The Incredible Hulk in 2003’s Hulk, which was as much an adaptation of a physical comic book as it was an adaptation of the character. Perhaps he was ahead of his time as Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse has enraptured audience with even more audacious iteration of that idea.

Will Smith plays Henry Brogen, an assassin looking to exit his career, whose latest job sees him facing off against a clone of his younger self. If that sounds a lot like Rian Johnson’s Looper, you’re right, it very much does.

The screenplay has been bouncing around Hollywood since 1997, so it’ll be interesting to see how they can freshen up the material - even the casting seems to come from another era, as Will Smith hasn’t had a bonfire hit for some time. Watch this space.
