10 Movies That Made You Most Question Your Own Reality

5. The Truman Show (1998)

It's bad enough finding out that someone has erased all their memories of a relationship you shared together. Imagine finding out your entire town is a fake set that films your every move for an international reality TV show! That's the problem Jim Carrey faces in his second appearance on this list. Although the concept seemed novel at the time, The Truman Show has since become remarkably prescient considering how popular reality TV is these days. What's most impressive about Peter Weir's film though is that the set-up is surprisingly believable. Every single aspect of Truman's life is controlled with such precision that it takes the poor man thirty years before he even suspects anything unusual. That's actually pretty scary. Could you be trapped in a similar situation right now? After watching The Truman Show, it's easy to become paranoid that someone is filming every second of your life. That's because they are. It's called the government. Get used to it.
