I was not a fan at all of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man; it committed the cardinal sin of, as I suspected pre-release, wasting around half of its screen-time on the same origin story we've already seen, before unleashing a woefully underwhelming villain, and basically feeling like the first awkward entry in what
could be a decent reboot franchise, given that the acting was largely superior to Sam Raimi's films, and the gritter, darker tone was an interesting divergence. I was sure that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would be better than the first, at least until information started coming out about it, which suggests that Marc Webb and co. simply haven't learned from the mistakes of their first outing. Here are 10 reasons that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - which will presumably be re-titled prior to release - is going to fail...
10. Too Many Villains
If there's anything that can be taken away from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, it's that the thing had too many villains (Sandman, Venom and sort-of the New Goblin) and therefore none of them were developed in an interesting and rewarding way. It did a lot of things, just none of them very well, and fans on the whole were disappointed with the film as a result, seeing it as a huge come-down after the brilliance of the first two. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 just might be setting itself up for a similar fate, given that we already know that Paul Giamatti is playing Rhino and Jamie Foxx is portraying Electro, while Dane Dehaan will play Harry Osborn. Though it can't be confirmed that Harry or his father Norman (Chris Cooper) will in fact be playing villains, even having two villains is a cause for concern in of itself. The film should have focused on one villain and done it
well rather than trying to walk before it can crawl.
