10 Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rumours That Ended Up Being Bullsh*t

For the last time, Luke Skywalker isn't Kylo Ren!

Looking back over the countless rumours which have done the rounds over the past two years or so for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it's actually kind of surprising how many of them were right. In fact, a plot leak which so many scoffed at earlier this year ended up detailing all but a few key moments in the movie. Turns out J.J. Abrams' mystery box was full of leaking holes from the very start of production thanks to a wave of concept art which found its way online featuring several key characters and scenes. However, for every rumour that did come true, there were countless others that didn't. With some, it's easy to see where they might have come from, but the rest are really far out there. What they all have in common though is that they ended up being complete and utter bullsh*t! They're still very interesting, especially as there's a chance that one or two might just come into play in a future instalment of the franchise... if so, Rian Johnson's Episode VIII is going to jump the shark in a major way!

10. Luke's Floating Lightsaber

It's entirely possible that this rumour had some basis in truth due to it surfacing around the time that J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan started re-writing Michael Arndt's screenplay, but talk of Star Wars: The Force Awakens kicking off with the sight of Luke Skywalker's hand and lightsaber floating through space and eventually landing on Jakku obviously didn't amount to anything. While it's surprisingly easy to imagine how this could have worked in the movie, it would have arguably been more than a little daft for The Force Awakens to kick off with Luke's floating hand and lightsaber suddenly appearing on this planet for Rey to find. Regardless, other variations of this rumour continued to do the rounds, including one which pointed to Max Von Syndow's character being a scrap dealer of some sort and giving the lightsaber to Rey in order for her to return it to Luke. Again, there are enough similarities to the final movie here to see some truth in these claims, but the idea must have been abandoned fairly early on. If anything, it feels like this rumour came from someone who heard something vague about the lightsaber being an important part of the plot, only for the sites reporting on it to come up with this outlandish explanation.
