7. The Bridge - The Man Who Would Be King

Man Who Would Be King

The Movie:

In John Huston's riveting adventure based on a Rudyard Kipling short, incorrigible rogues Daniel (Sean Connery) and Peachy (Michael Caine) set off from 19th century India across the Khyber Pass into the unknown fictional region of Kafiristan with the goal of looting the place. Tear Jerker Moment: ''I'd like to apologise for getting you killed instead of going home rich like you deserved on account of me being so bleeding high and bloody mighty...'' When the simple villagers mistake Daniel for a God, he is made their King and both he and Peachy live the good life - but it all goes wrong when Daniel gets delusions of grandeur and is exposed as a mere mortal. With Peachy watching, the villagers force Daniel onto a rope bridge and cut it down sending him falling to his death, but not before he asks his best friend to forgive him... which Peachy does to the sound of sniffles from blokes everywhere.
