10 Things You Didn't Know About Black Widow

For starters, she's never actually killed a lover, so the name's a little confusing.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is seriously lacking in female characters. With the exception of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming Jessica Jones Netflix show, all Marvel properties are driven by the male characters involved. Which is why Black Widow, who is part of the ensemble casts of Iron Man 2, both Avengers films and two of the three Captain America films, is such an important character. Black Widow, as played by Scarlett Johansson, has been, until recently, the only female Avenger. She is an incredibly skilled assassin and spy and is able to hold her own in a group that includes a Norse god and the greatest American soldier of all time. Her past is largely mysterious, with details being slowly revealed during every movie, and she is developing into one of the most captivating superheroes on screen. Fans of Marvel comics have long had inside information on Black Widow AKA Natasha Romanoff, former Russian spy extraordinaire. Her history in the comics is rich and fascinating and it makes the fact that she's yet to lead a film even more galling. Here are a few things you might not know about your favourite Avenger.
