Before Natasha hit the scene, Marvel launched a completely different character also called Black Widow. From 1940-1943, Madame Claire Voyant (yes, that is really her name and yes, she is a psychic) appeared in 5 comics, often using the pseudonym Black Widow. While she shared some similar traits with the later Black Widow(s), such as her ruthlessness and tendency to murder on sight, she is unrelated to the spy-Widows. Instead, she had been resurrected from death by the devil and could subsequently teleport to hell. She disappeared for 50 years after her appearances in the 40s but has popped up in a few stories since, including as part of the cast of The Twelve, a Marvel Nazi story. Unfortunately, she never crossed paths with the more popular Black Widow character- that'd be a fight we'd love to see.
