10 Things You Didn’t Know About Gremlins

Gizmo Gremlins has been one of my favorite film franchises for close to two decades. I think the films are fun, creative, and hilarious. I have watched both films countless times, own almost the entire set of the NECA action figures, and have the theatrical posters for both films adorning the walls in my apartment. With the recent news that Gremlins may be next to get the remake treatment, I first had to yell at the sky in anger. Why can Hollywood not just leave what was once great alone and stop trying to modernize everything? With recent failures such as Nightmare on Elm Street and Total Recall, I shudder at the mere thought of a CGI-fest Gremlins film. Luckily, a Gremlins remake isn€™t set in stone and we still have the original two films to enjoy. Like I said, I€™ve been a Gremlins fan for most of my life. While many may think they know everything about Gremlins, the goal of this article is to share some lesser known facts or tidbits about the franchise. So here it is: 10 Things You Didn€™t Know About Gremlins!

10. Gremlins Was Originally Set For a Christmas Release

gizmo_in-santa_hat_gremlins Gremlins isn€™t what you would call a traditional Christmas movie. Much like Die Hard, you can watch it on or around Christmas but it really isn€™t what you would call a Christmas classic. Part of this reason is because it was actually released in the summer of 1984. Warner Bros. wanted to release the film around Christmas (which most likely would have Christmas€™d up the film more) but production was sped up once they realized that they had no competition during the summer blockbuster season against Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom or Ghostbusters. Therefore, the Christmas released got scrapped and movie fans had Christmas come a bit early in the summer of 1984.
