10 Times Hollywood Pissed Off Fanboys (And Then Proved Them Wrong)

9. When Warner Bros. Turned The Deathly Hallows Into Two Movies

When Warner Bros. announced that their adaptation of the last book in the Harry Potter series would be split into two separate movies, fans were immediately distrustful, fearing that the decision to cut The Deathly Hallows in half was made with profit rather than the best interest of the story in mind.

The more sceptical Harry Potter fanboys made their anger heard over the splitting of the final book, prompting franchise producer David Heyman to come out in defence of the decision, insisting that author JK Rowling was behind the idea of a two-part finale:

“[The Deathly Hallows] is so rich, the story so dense and there is so much that is resolved that after discussing it with Jo, we came to the conclusion that two parts were needed to do it justice.”

Rowling's blessing, along with Heyman's insistence that the story came first, was enough to convince most fans that the decision would benefit them as much as it would the studio, though certain sections of the fandom (those who complain about not enough of the book making it to the screen with one breath then call a double-film greed with another) were unconvinced.

In the end, the proof was in the pudding, and Deathly Hallows Part 1 proved its own worth. The same fans that doubted the need for the extra movie were the ones to jump to its defence, recognising Part 1's importance in developing Harry, Ron and Hermione's relationships as they approached young adulthood in isolation from the wizarding world, a part of the book that simply couldn't be ignored.
