10 Upcoming Movies Nobody Asked For

Why are they even bothering with these movies?

The Crow 2024
Lionsgate

Every movie ever made is obviously conceived with a target audience in mind, but some projects muster such thunderous indifference (at best!) to their very existence that you have to wonder precisely who they were made for at all. And that's absolutely the case with the following ten movies, each of which are in the works with some even nearing release despite just about nobody asked for them to be made.

Now, there are plenty of great movies that come totally out of nowhere and unasked for, but that seems incredibly unlikely to be the case with these films. From last-ditch sequels in dead/dying franchises, barrel-scraping adaptations, listless prequels, and pointless remakes, there's little "need" for most of these movies to exist, artistically speaking.

It'd certainly be great to be proven wrong of course, but from the moment these films were all announced, it was tough not to roll one's eyes and make some sharp assumptions about how things will probably turn out.

As ever we'll have to wait and see, but for the betting folk among us, there's little reason to hold out much hope for these upcoming movies...

10. Bourne 6

The Crow 2024
Universal

The Bourne franchise certainly had a good run, releasing five movies over an almost 15-year period which collectively grossed more than $1.6 billion and were mostly well-received - especially the ones starring Matt Damon.

Despite the series seemingly winding down with 2016's Jason Bourne, however, last year it was confirmed that a sixth film was in development, with Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front) tapped to direct and Damon being courted to star once again.

Except, the Damon-starring Bourne movies have had two distinct endings already - in The Bourne Ultimatum and Jason Bourne - so dusting the character off yet again can't help but feel insanely desperate.

There's a point where creatives need to just let it go and accept that the good thing is done, because the mediocre Jason Bourne already made it abundantly clear that the franchise was running on fumes. This isn't to say that a sixth Bourne can't be good, but isn't basically everyone content with the IP being over? We got some quality action flicks out of it, some less-good ones, and that's that.
