Dodgeball is one of the funniest and most memorable mainstream studio comedies of the last two decades, and so after years of whispers about it, it was recently confirmed that Dodgeball 2 is in development. Vince Vaughn is set to return, though no word yet on Ben Stiller.

Needless to say, given the generally awful track record of belated, decades-later sequels to hit comedies - most notably Zoolander 2 and Anchorman 2 - it's tough to muster much enthusiasm for this so long after the fact.

A 20-years-later Dodgeball sequel that may not feature Ben Stiller is a bold strategy, Cotton - the jokes literally write themselves here.

Beyond the potential fun of getting Lance Armstrong back to reflect on his ill-aged cameo in the original movie, where is there to even go with this? More than two decades removed from the original, it's easy to picture it being a tired, lazily nostalgic cash-grab that's quickly forgotten. The window to get this one going with much fan enthusiasm passed a long, long time ago.
