There are countless ways that a movie sequel can screw itself over, either by deviating from the original too much, or equally, not deviating enough and being a cynical carbon copy. Sometimes, it's just down to poor creative choices like say, reintroducing a favoured character from the previous film, only to unceremoniously kill them off before our very eyes. More often than not, it will be the most likable character who bites it in an attempt to up the stakes and make the sequel feel important and necessary, but most of the time it just results in infuriation.
