12 Actors Who Have Been In Prison

What do Robert Downey Jr. and Stephen Fry have in common?

We have a tendency to mysticise those in show business. Seeing them transform into all manner of characters on screen, it's sometimes easy to forget that actors are real people with the same doubts and fallacies that haunt us all. The entertainment press probes all manner of their lives, but even then it's hard not get a elevated view of them. Not only are they regular people who fart, burp and take naked photos, but some are far from upstanding members of the community. To learn that actors can occasionally use drugs or drive under the influence shouldn't come as a shock to you, but it's still strange to think of these screen gods actually paying the price for it. Of course, that's what often happens. While most can get off with a warning, some movie stars end up serving hard time. Today we bring you twelve of those actors who've spent some time behind bars, ranging from a few days to almost a decade. Most of these crimes tend towards a similar group - drink driving and its ilk - that fame has no doubt skewered their perceptions of. What's remarkable, however, is the length of these convictions; they tend to be shorter than what a regular joe would receive for the same crime. Ah, to be a celebrity.

12. Chris Klein

Crime: DUI Served: 4 days Chris Klein broke out massively as Oz, one of the central characters in American Pie, but following that failed to get anything that impressive again. Starring in Rollerball, John McTiernan€™s massive flop, no doubt hurt his credentials; it€™s hard to come back from headlining something so underwhelming. He's still managed to remain relevant in the decade since and with 2012€™s American Reunion so surprisingly successful that a sequel is in the works, it looks like he'll have some very safe work in the coming years. In 2005 he was arrested for drink driving, with a blood alcohol level over double the limit. This came a few months after Klein and Katie Holmes broke off their engagement, although it was denied the two events were linked. He didn€™t have proper time in prison, however, until a later DUI incident where he spent four days locked up before entering rehab.
