10. General Thade - Planet Of The Apes

You know what you're getting with Tim Roth as an actor and while he can occasionally attract accusations of over-acting, when it comes to playing ostentatious villains, he's usually the right man for the job. He is British after all.

And though Tim Burton's take on Planet Of The Apes was a comparative disaster with a twist so mind-numbingly stupid that it has become way more memorable than anything else that happened in the movie, Roth is great as General Thade.

His chimp baddy is General Thade is the kind of sneering, narcissistic evil you'd expect from a Shakespearean play. He's fury personified, quick to violence and thanks to Rick Baker's make-up, he actually looks a lot better than the film gets credit for.
