The MCU hasn't been averse to recasting significant roles - Mark Ruffalo replaced Ed Norton as Bruce Banner and Terrence Howard's stubbornness gifted Don Cheadle War Machine - but no character has been subject to as many actor switch-ups as Howard Stark. Gerard Sanders was the model for Howard in photographs in Iron Man, then in Iron Man 2 John Slattery stepped up to play the inventor in an old film, then Dominic Cooper played a younger version in Captain America: The First Avenger. But things have only got more complicated since; Cooper reprised the role for the post-WW2 Agent Carter and was used as reference for the character in the news report of his death in The Winter Soldier, but then Slattery reprised the role for Ant-Man's 1989 flashback. It's not really enough to class as a plot hole, but Howard Stark's changing faces are prominent enough a running trait that it'd be nice to see Marvel acknowledge with a quip about "Dad" from Tony Stark or in another flashback (Ant Man & The Wasp?).
