12 Most Ridiculous Biopic Castings Of All Time

11. Ben Affleck - Tony Mendez (Argo)

Ben Affleck made for a thoroughly entertaining lead in his Best Picture-winning 2012 classic Argo, though the film was rightly pilloried for its rather lax approach to historical accuracy, right down to the casting of CIA operator protagonist Tony Mendez.

For starters, Mendez is very obviously of Latino descent and Affleck very obviously isn't. More to the point, though, Affleck looks absolutely nothing like the man, and it's clear that his casting is yet another case of Hollywood "sexing up" a real-life figure.

Amusingly, producer George Clooney was originally angling for the Mendez role, which would've presented exactly the same problems. It's a great movie and Affleck gives a solid performance, but once you're aware of what the real Mendez looks like, it can't be unseen.
