All 13 Pixar Theatrical Shorts: Ranked From Worst To Best

13. Tin Toy (1988)

Tin Toy Written, created and directed by Pixar's resident genius John Lasseter, it was the inspiration for the fantastically memorable Toy Story in 1995, the studio's breakthrough hit and still one of its finest moments. However, despite it saving all the Pixar trademarks for a short film, the film is arguably one of the studio's poorer efforts. The lack of a sympathetic protagonist doesn't aid the cause. While it's clear that the baby who owns the eponymous toy is meant to be seen as adorable, the crude and clunky animation makes it seem completely creepy, especially against the cute toy. In fact, it reminds me of nothing less than the "baby on the ceiling" scene from Trainspotting. As ever, the story itself is quite sweet and the elements we expect from Pixar are in place early on. It just doesn't quite gel enough for me.

I was raised by wolves in the woodlands of Northumberland, but am still posher than Colin Firth having dinner with The Queen. I write all of my pieces by swallowing a cocktail of scrabble tiles and vodka, then regurgitating them over my jotter. Hope this explains the typos.
